It's always good to have an objective 3rd party fresh set of eyes checking over your new home
The home inspector is the only person that isn't dependent on the sale going through
No matter how much fast-talking is involved by the Builder's sales person, always insist in the purchase contract that the sale is contigent on a home inspection
Always have the home inspection done prior to close...it's the only time you're in control and have the right to walk away. Afterwards, you're only chance is to hope that the Builder will make repairs if issues are found
Drive around existing developments that your Builder has built in and speak with current homeowners...learning how the homes hold up and of any common issues is a great investment of your time
